In most cases, those cars are stolen "for order". Thieves will steal only a type of car, which is ordered by someone who buys those cars from them. In a lot of cases, those are wreckage yard owners and the car is disassembled and sold in parts. Sometimes he wants only engine, or another parts, and they will steal whole car. Almost every stolen car will end up dissasembled for spare parts. Sometimes car is used and chassis number changed. But this is rare. I was talking to guy, who used to steal cars, but it was some years ago. Now he is waiting for court process, although he was only charged from some minor things (lack of evidences). Those thieves specialize on foreign cars, in Slovakia where I live, there is a big risk to leave car with foreign license plate on the street, even during day and in main street. They work very organized and while someone will keep an eye on you, the another guy will steal your car. I have dutch license plate and my car was robbed two times in Slovakia as I left it unattended only for few minutes in area with a lot of people and during day. One day I parked in main railway station there and I was waiting for someone about 100 metres from my BMW, and I noticed one guy is tracking me, he pretending he was not, but I evidently saw him keeping an eye on me and someone else was saying him WATCH HIM! Then I was looking on him and he disapeared because he knew I spot him still looking on me. I am very sure those guys wanted to rob or to steal my vehicle.... Even if I wish you to find your car, the reality is that most likely, your car has been broken-down for spare parts and sold.
